WASHING MACHINE

Hey Friends,
Willing to go for a Washing Machine, but confused about which machine to buy?
Well just to inform you the purpose of a Washing Machine is just to give movement to the clothes; and give comfort to your hands and keep you out of dependency on your maids.
The cleanliness of washed clothes basically depends on Detergent, the thermal action (Hot Water) and the mechanical action (Movement) used for washing the clothes.
We all are familiar with the detergent ads talking about Enzyme Action; let us firstly understand the work of enzymes in washing of clothes.
Enzymes action help in loosing the dirt off the clothes; they give their best performance from 400C to 600C and their action lasts for 10 to 15 minutes.
Talking about the Scenario of Washing Machines in India,
Semi Automatic Washing Machine still takes the top slot,
Then comes the Top Load Fully Automatic Washing Machine,
And the earlier thought of highly premium category Front Load Fully Automatic Washing Machine is now also finding their way to Indian Middle Class Segment as well.
The Top Slot, Semi Automatic Washing Machine, is hot favorite in India just because of two reasons:
  1. Low Initial Price
  2. Low water consumption (by means of re-use of water)
But, taking into consideration the hygiene factor is it viable to re-use water? Please recall the enzyme action talked earlier in this article.
When the enzyme action is over in 15min, and we are still washing our clothes again and again in that dirty water filled with germs and dirt of previously washed clothes. The Hygiene Factor goes for a toss.
The real story is we are compromising on our health for saving a few bucks, and also this highly concentrated dirty water is also difficult to retreat, hence posing threat to our environment too.
On the other hand if we use fresh water every time for washing new lot of dirty clothes, it would make the water problem even worse in our country.
Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a washing machine which can help us in both respects; the hygiene factor and no threat to our environment?
The answer is yes, the category thought of only for Niche Market is now showing it’s presence in Lower and Upper Middle Class Segment too,
i.e. The Front Load Washing Machine, and this change is because of change in perception, lifestyle, per capita income of people and Finance Schemes.
There is no rocket science in WHY the Front Loaders are slightly expensive than their counterpart Top Loaders and Semi Automatics.
The only reason being that many brands like LG, Samsung, Siemens, Whirlpool and many more (except IFB) in India, are importing these machine from their parent company and they have to pay heavy duty to Government of India (though reduced just a bit recently).
Now, let’s check out how the Front Loaders maintains The Hygiene Factor and is Environmental Friendly too.
Front Loaders have a different mechanism of washing, which is gentle and effective on clothes, which is called Pounding Effect (Popularly known as Dhobi Pachaad), the action for washing is same as the way Dhobi washes your clothes, but is gentler on clothes as the clothes fall back in water, and not against stone like in case of Dhobi Pachaad.
Front Loaders consumes just 1/3rd water as compared to Semis or the Top Loaders, creating a greener effect on our environment. Because it consumes less water, hence it requires less detergent too and in turn less pollution. You can understand this mechanism by doing a simple experiment.
Take a glass and fill up water till the top, keep it vertical (as shown in figure) and this is how the Semis or the Top Loaders works.
Now, empty 2/3rd of water from the glass, keep it horizontal by keeping lid on the glass and this is how a Front Loader works.
Front Loaders always come with an in-built heater, which gives you flexibility in most of the brands to select the water temperature like Cold, 30, 40, 60 & 95oC, matching the requirement of your clothes and give them care too.
Only Whirlpool in India, gives Heater with maximum heating till 400C, but looking at it from environment and safety point of view, it is really hazardous from both aspects. For the Price Conscious Indian Customer, both important aspects go for a toss.
Top Loaders and Semis takes about 40-45L of water and heating the water to a level of 400C will take more time for heating as compared with Front Loader which just takes 15-18L for Water for Washing, Hence, Front Loaders SAVE ELECTRICITY.
Moreover, in case of Top Loaders and Semis anyone can open the Lid at anytime during the wash process, which could result in an accident (in form of electric shock), whereas in Front Loader, the wash process start only when the Door is properly locked, and no one can open it during the wash process. Hence, Front Loaders are secure from Safety Point of View also.
In Top Loaders and Semis, the Spin Speed is generally constant, whereas in Front Loaders you can yourself adjust from variable spin speed options as per your requirement.
So, Front Loaders even give care to your clothes even during the harsh spinning cycle.
Front Loaders gives much more wash programs as compared to Top Loaders or Semis.
So, choose the wash program which is right for your clothes.
So, your next purchase of Washing Machine should show care for Environment, and the best wash quality and care for your clothes.
